Protecting the world’s oceans

Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation. To increase donor engagement and support, I designed a tri-annual magazine.

Graphic design

I conceptualized and designed all pages for multiple issues of a 20+ page magazine, as well as created artwork—from illustrations to infographics to photo illustrations—as needed

Design of a feature story titled, “A sea of noise.” The title of the story sits on a large transparent blue circle on top of a dark wave background, and the story’s design features bold typography and numbers called out in blue circles.
A subsequent page of “A sea of noise” feature story design. The page includes a photo of dolphins and bold typography and numbers called out in blue circles.
Design of a feature story titled, “A new era for fishing.” The design features a bold, typographic title in green and black and white illustrations of several types of fish.
Design of a feature story titled, “Discovering Desventuradas.” The design features a large striking photo of an exploratory vessel navigating in a dark, underwater environment.
Design of a feature story titled, “Pole to pole.” The design features text and maps for three regions including the Arctic, the Aleutians, and Canada.
A subsequent page of the “Pole to pole” feature story design. The design features text and maps for two regions including Peru and Chile.
Design of a feature story titled, “Hello my name is Alaska Pollock.” The title is presented as a photo illustration of a nametag. At the bottom of the page is a photo of a fish burger, like one you would buy at a fastfood restaurant.
Design of a feature story titled, “Seafood Fraud.” The design includes several photos of fish including a tray of sushi.
Design of a feature story titled, “Ocean Oasis.” The design includes vibrant photos of fish and decorative watercolor motifs.
An infographic titled, “Why seafood is the perfect protein.” The design includes illustrations representing four categories: water, land, grain, and climate.
A subsequent page of the “Ocean Oasis” feature story design, which also includes vibrant photos of fish and decorative watercolor motifs.
Design of a feature story titled, “Jaws in jeopardy.” Text is placed on a background photo spanning the entire spread of two pages. The background photo is of water with a shark on one side.
A cover design of the “Oceana” magazine issue. The cover includes a photo illustration of an empty bowl and spoon and the title, “Fins are finished.”
Several cover designs of the “Oceana” magazine. The covers feature a variety of images, including some of celebrities. The cover most prominent in the image features a headshot of Leonardo DiCaprio.
